Gallery Viewer Update

As you may have noticed, the gallery flash applet has been upgraded to SimpleViewer Pro. This means big improvements behind the scenes – it is much better customizable, and large galleries are now dynamically loaded instead of slurping everything at once. Much better response time, especially for the bandwidth impaired visitors. The navigation is much smoother too, and the viewer can now also ‘pop out’ into fullscreen mode to view at images in their full glory.

Just realized that I’m not entirely happy with the way my homepage is organized. This will change in the next few days (weeks?). And, as always with such things, there may be even more glitches than usual while I’m tearing everything apart and putting it together, Frankenstein-like.

Access restrictions to the photo gallery

Over the next few days, my photo library will be replaced with a reduced portfolio of selected photos. The original collection will continue to exist, but in contrast to the portfolio access to the collection will no longer be public for copyright reasons.

However, there will be an option to register (for free, of course) and get access to the photo collection. The registration step will hopefully prevent any future abuse of the material.

I apologize for the minor inconvenience in accessing the gallery, but this step has become necessary to retain the rights to some of the published material.

Friends Gallery

As mentioned earlier I split my gallery yesterday, moving the part I am providing for my friends to its own homepage. Now my own gallery is nicely integrated into the current design, and my friends’ images are clearly separated. Which I find much better, because these photos are their works, and a tight integration into my own website wouldn’t have been appropriate.

However, there’s one drawback: depending on how exactly they were mad, permanent links to individual photos of the gallery may no longer work. I’m not exactly happy about that, but it was unavoidable.

WordPress upgrade

upgraded WordPress to 2.1 – mostly a change for the better, but unfortunately my previous theme isn’t compatible with the new system…

i’m taking this as an opportunity to redesign my homepage, so please bear with the default theme (which is somewhat broken for my gallery images) for the few days it’ll take until my new design is up and running.

[lang_de]Hab gerade auf WordPress 2.0.2 umgestellt – das ging wirklich überraschend problemlos… Bin schon gespannt ob die ganzen Plugins auch weiterhin funktionieren. Also, wenn meine Homepage in den nächsten Tagen nicht ganz das tut was sie eigentlich soll, dann liegt das nicht an mir [/lang_de][lang_en]Just finished upgrading to WordPress 2.0.2 – a surprisingly short and well behaved affair… assuming that the plugins actually still work as expected. So if my blog doesn’t exactly behave as expected, it’s not (exclusively) my fault [/lang_en]
