FAD #19: a silence louder than words

Abandoned buildings are full of empty, and their silence is often full of forgotten stories…
a silence louder than words

Can’t tell you where I shot this, but I’ll be glad to share the how: Taken with a Nikon D700 + 24-70/2.8; ISO 400, 1/20″ at f/2.8. No flash to capture the great light patterns. Pretty long exposure time, scraping the edge of the (1/focal length) rule, but manageable. Post in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom – crop, a little extra clarity and saturation, pulled down the dark tones a bit and upped highlights for nice mid-level contrast. Finally, pushed red & magenta saturation shifts to make the chair’s pillow pop just a little bit more.

By the way, while this particular image was well within the capabilities of my D200 (and D70s, probably), some of the rooms were dark enough that I pushed the ISO up to 6400, and the D700 delivered great results with very acceptable noise. That thing can literally see in the dark…
